OLED vs LED Which Kind Of Display Is Better for your Television

People most likely get confused between OLED vs LED displays while shopping for a new TV. It’s likely because there has been a hype about OLED TVs. Of course, they are lightweight, thin, and offer incredible contrast to the picture quality, that is second to none in the market. Yes, the technology is an advanced version of LED and letter “O” in OLED makes a considerable difference. That doesn’t mean OLED TV will beat LED TV in every possible factor.

It’s just, you must know about both the technologies before you go out for shopping.

When The OLED TVs were first launched in 2013, they were appreciated for their perfect black levels and brilliant colors. Eventually, they took a bit of a hit because of brightness levels that could not compete with the standards of LED/LCD TVs. Additionally, they were way too expensive than LED TVs. But as time went on and the new advancements took place, OLED became brighter, and the prices also came down. Thus, leading to high competition in the market. Now, just take a look at how the two technologies differ from each other, and at the end, let’s figure out which one is better.

How They are Built:

LED TVs use LCD(liquid crystal display) technology and an LED backlight to brighten the screen. There are three types of LED backlights: edge-lit, direct-lit, and full array. The backlight makes sure the LED TV can get very bright. Thus, pictures look vivid even when the room lights are on. The way LED TVs are built, it doesn’t give the perfect black colors.

Whereas, OLED TVs don’t require a dedicated backlight as every pixel in it is self-illuminating. Thus, it provides better blacks in the picture. Additionally, OLED TVs delivers the best experience in a dim or darkened room.

How They are Built:

Response time here is the time taken by each pixel to change states. With a less response time comes less motion blur. As OLED pixels combine the light source and the color in a diode, pixels in OLED TV changes states incredibly fast. Whereas, LED TVs uses LEDs to produce brightness and tiny LCD shutters for colors. Thus, LED offers slower response times compared to OLED TV.

So is it true that OLED TVs are better than LED TVs? Honestly, it is tough to differentiate between these two TV technologies, and in the end, it is up to you to make the final selection.
